" Patriotism "

Application deadline is August 27th

Our theme for 2010 is " Patriotism " which is defined by Merriam-Webster as "a love for or devotion to one's country".  A patriot would be defined as someone who loves, supports, and is prepared to serve their country. 2010 Application Acceptance and Judging Criteria

Performance and your ability to entertain the spectators should be of primary concern when designing your entry. Your application will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

1.  Choreography - Entertaining!  Exciting!  Unusual!  Keep in mind that your choreography must include continual forward movement, to prevent gaps between entries.  The parade will be stopped about every half block for band competitions.

2.  Performance value - Fun and/or clever and easily understood by the audience.

3.  Audience Interaction – How can you make a positive connection with the audience?  Shout-outs, horns, handing out freebies (candy, beads, etc.)

4. Design concept - your unit is well-designed and has a clearly understood central theme or idea.  You can visit our "Links" page for some suggestions.

5. Adherence to theme - your unit uniquely incorporates the Parade theme “ PATRIOTISM ”.

6. Technical design - your unit must easily travel through the Parade route, turn corners and fit under the 15’ traffic signals.

7. Use of sound - Music, instruments or other audio which incorporates our Parade theme "Patriotism".  The sound system should be able to project sound the audience will be able to hear clearly and understand in an outdoor environment.  Renting a professional sound system is highly encouraged.  (There will be no sound in the "no sound zone", and the street will be marked indicating this zone. )

8. Costuming/props - the costumes are original in nature, unusual and/or well designed. Props should be inventive and large enough to be visible to the audience.

9. Timeliness - application should be thorough and complete.  Applications with supporting documentation should be received at Parade Headquarters no later than Noon, Friday, August 27th, 2010.

You will most likely be notified of your acceptance within two weeks of our receipt of your application.
